It’s an oldie but a goodie. The film Chocolat is based on Joanne Harris’ brilliant novel of the same name and is a wonderful tale of small village life, optimism, eccentricity and chocolate. The interiors reflect the characters with the delightful Chocolaterie at the centre of the story and the elegant manor house that is home to the oppressive mayor, Comte Paul de Reynaud, as the scene of so much scheming.

The local hairdressers and gossip centre
Compte de Reynauld’s elegant but unhappy home
The film really is worth a watch but may give you the urge to move to rural France, and possibly open a chocolate shop!
