Hodsoll McKenzie – Discovery Collection

Hodsoll McKenzie is one of my favourite fabric companies, every collection is filled with glorious colours, embroidery work, textures and of course wonderful designs. So it comes as no surprise that their new collection Discovery is just as lovely as ever. The collection has new design techniques and ideas that introduce “an unexpected twist to natural fibres and inventive interpretations of classic and ethnic designs”. Discovery is full of soft and sumptuous designs that have the perfect combination colour, subtly and romance. So take a look at the latest instalment from Hodsoll McKenzie.

‘Cushions in Turlington fabric’ from Hodsoll McKenzie

The beautiful Turlington fabric has a Tuscan antique sensibility to it. The faded glamour of the pattern gives off a relaxed and calming presence; you’d be able to have this look in a contemporary bohemian setting and have it feel just as at home as in an older, more traditionally styled home.

The embroidery on this Gabon fabric designs is absolutely stunning, creating patterns that take their influence from African design. The strong sharpness of the indigo background allows the pattern to pop, while still keeping a natural and organic feel to the cloth.

The drapery in this next photo is a lovely fabric that hangs beautiful. The Quincey Floral pattern was taken from an 18^th century design, so it perfect if you want to create an inviting, classic setting in your home. Also featured is the Donnelley fabric on the central cushions. A rustic design taken from the Scottish Highlands; which could be a fun alternative to tartan if you want to evoke that heritage feel in a different way.

The upholstery on this chair is the Malindi fabric, named after the city in Kenya. The intricate pattern has both a softness and a richness to it, making it feel like it would be comfortable both in your home and a hotel.

If you’re more inclined to opt for a plain upholstery fabric, something textural like this Collins design from the collection is a gorgeous way to have the best of both worlds. There’s an interesting effect on the fabric that’ll give your sofa a bit of life. Also in the image is the Chloe braid on the cushions, which is a great idea to dress up the piece in a glamorous way.

I absolutely love this velvety patterned fabric, it has a distinct Renaissance feel to it, whilst the use of the denim colour gives it a modern feel as well. It looks beautiful on chair above, but I can also see this looking lovely on a headboard, really creating a statement in a room.

The stripe of the Serengeti fabric gives the sofa above a beautifully elegant feel. It’s a perfect example of how you can have a patterned sofa and still have a collection of vibrant and busy cushions on top of it without them clashing. The centre cushion shows the Gabon fabric in a smaller way, for a more intimate approach to the pattern; great for using in any room of the house.

It’s always lovely to see a collection like this where you can imagine using every fabric, from stripes to patterns to plains, there’s a whole array of exciting pieces to choose from, the only trouble now is picking a favourite.

Enchanted Gardens

Whenever Lizzie Ibbotson, our Osborne & Little rep comes in to show us the new collections it’s always a wonderful trip to a world of fantasy and magic. Osborne & Little have completely nailed their latest collection, Enchanted Gardens, with beautiful patterns, designs and some fantastic colourways, it’s a collection to covet. So take a look at some truly enchanting designs.

‘Meadow’

Meadow is a vibrant pattern is a modern take on the typical floral themed fabrics. The array of wild flowers, including some lively poppies, really stand out of against the navy background. It’s a strong look that must be met with some hefty confidence, but it’s a great choice for making an impact in a room.

‘Aviary’

The Aviary pattern gives you a geometric feel, these colourful birds on a structural web are a great way to add some colour and fun to a contemporary room. If typical florals and natural motifs aren’t really your thing, adding a contemporary element can help to eliminate the factors that you’re not so keen on.

‘Woodland Sheer’

When it comes to sheers, you’ll typically find some beautiful white or off-white colours that’ll look elegant whilst giving your room some substance, but at the same time maintaining the light. Osborne & Little have taken this one step further, keeping the cool and sophisticated sheer qualities but adding a dash of colour into the mix with some fun leafy shapes.

One of my favourites from the collection is Rain Forest; it’s the combination of vivid colours, intriguing patterns and the overall striped effect that really create a concise, contemporary and glamorous effect. The only problem you’ll have with this fabric is choosing between the two colourways; the first, a green leafed pattern with almost neon indigo flowers, and the second a beautiful combination of purple and yellow.

‘Rain Forest’

Hanging Gardens is an adorable fabric that’s perfect for a feminine, sweet interior. The pattern consists of all the wonderful planters, baskets and birdcages you might imagine in your dream conservatory. The painterly style gives the whole look a soft and charming feel, giving it some interesting character. It’ll look gorgeous framing a window or doorway to the outside, especially blowing gracefully in the breeze.

‘Hanging Garden’

One of my favourite flowers, the Rhododendron, is captured beautifully in one of the fabric patterns in this collection. The gentle trellis-like formation makes a sophisticated structural look without being too heavy. The pattern is perfect for giving a little life to a conservative setting. The flowers have a charming traditional feel, but the dabbled background gives a little touch of contemporariness to the look, making perfect for adding florals to a period home without it looking dated.

‘Rhodara’

For a chinoiserie style, but with a twist of modern colours, the Japanese Garden pattern is just the ticket. The busy yet delicate design will give a room a new lease of life, and is a design that can be introduced in to a multitude of interior themes; including contemporary, bohemian, retro or traditional. A great feature of a chinoiserie style pattern is that it integrates the old with the new, and the fun with the elegant.

A new lighter touch has been given to an old favourite from the Pasha collection, the Tulipan. The teal, blush pink and faded orange tones of the detailing, gives the intricate pattern a softer feel, making it a more diverse fabric. There is also a certain modern neon-ness to the pattern which gives it an unique, contemporary, floral look.

Lastly, for something full of quirk, fun and just a hint of quaintness, the Curio pattern. From a distance, there’s a grid-like formation but upon closer inspection, you see a whole world of curiosities. Squirrels and owls that have found themselves bouncing around crockery and shells overall making a sweet, joyful pattern. It would make a perfect kitchen or bathroom blind, giving additional warmth.

Travers: ‘Love Letters’ Spring Collection

Although it may not feel like it with all this icy weather, the warm weather is just a few months away, and the spring collections are beginning to roll in. The new collection from Travers, ‘Love Letters’ is a wonderful array of fresh and light patterns and colours, and couldn’t be more perfect for spring.

The collection as a whole pays homage to original Travers brand and style, as well as classic American design. The bright and snappy colours are met with elegance to create a truly wonderful assortment to fill your home with.

‘Beaumont Indienne’ for the Blind and Tablecloth and ‘Sausalito’ for the Chairs

This vivacious Beaumont Indienne fabric is the definition of an eye-catcher. The vivid colours and lines give a modern twist on an iconic style, which make the fabric ideal if you like to add a little of the old and the new to an interior. Here it is matched with the fantastic Sausalito pattern, which is used as a more neutral canvas to house the punchy Beaumont Indienne design, but its mid-scale pattern still manages to hold its own, without the whole look being too overdone.

‘Emperor’s Seal’ for the Armchair and Ottoman and ‘Temple Lattice’ for the Curtains

The nature of Emperor’s Seal reminds me of the laid-back, open plan room decorated in a low-key, comfy minimalist style that you  might have seen in a design magazine from the nineties. The Chinese calligraphy, just a few shades darker than their background, are an interesting touch to neutral fabric, and is the sort of detail that adds a distinct sense of luxury. Paired perfectly with the Temple Lattice curtains, the burnt orange gives the whole look a sophisticated pop of colour.

‘St. Croix’ for the Headboard and the Armchair, ‘Catalina Stripe’ for the Curtains, ‘Sausalito’ for the Cushion and Footstool, and ‘Mason Diamond’ for the Throw

The glorious St. Croix fabric adorns this headboard to create a bold, feminine look in a bedroom, the birds and florals bursts out against the pink, and with a little additional piping the whole ensemble is really superb. A hint of texture is provided by the Mason Diamond fabric used for the throw and the crisp white teamed up with the array of pinks give the room a sweet and charming look.

‘Vermicelli Velvet’ for the Chair and ‘Belle Meade Stripe’ for the Curtains

The rich and textural Vermicelli fabric has a wonderful mixture of both contemporary and traditional aspects. The pattern is modern way of presenting a regal style, and the velvet and interesting colourways means that the fabric can be used in a contemporary setting, or used to update a traditional piece of furniture like the chair above. You may think using an intricate design like the Vermicelli with another pattern may make the fabric lose a touch of its elegance, but the royal stripe of the Belle Meade creates a perfectly curated look.

‘Lamour’ for the Curtains and ‘Astor Velvet’ for the Chair

The snappy green colourways from this photograph show how to do classic styles in an unexpected shade. The textural Astor Velvet used on the seat of this antique chair gives an idea of how to keep a harmonious look throughout a room whilst still including antique pieces. There’s an Art Deco touch to the Lamour curtains, the sultry gold intertwines wonderfully with the mossy green, making a glamourous display, proving that you needn’t just use dark hues to create a rich and romantic interior.

The Beverley Velvet has a touch of retro style to it, the wavy pattern almost melts onto the sofa,  giving it a laid-back seventies vibe, which is perfect for adding some relaxed but smart style into a room. This fabric is perfect for giving a little flavour into a modern, contemporary space.

Another absolutely charming design from the collection is this rich but sweet pattern, Cloisonné Embroidery. It’s a rather special deign and if you like to go bold with your interior choices, this should certainly be up for consideration. The vibrant pattern maintains a feminine and soothing tone about it, which means the large pattern isn’t too overbearing for a room and instead will settle into a scheme in a natural fashion.

Next up is a playful take on traditional Chinoiserie, Happy Dragons is a fantastic pattern if you want to have a little fun with your style. The design has the perfect combination of whimsy and elegance, and mixed together with some fabulous colourways, the design is a must-have for contemporary schemes, or traditional ones that are in need of a bit of an edge.

Finally, for hint of vintage Miami, this look is fabulous. From the limey greens of the Catalina Stripe to the limber paisley style of the Balboa Paisley, which could almost be mistaken for palm leaves, everything about these fabrics gives off a laid-back American coastal feeling.

Everything about this collection is calm, cool and collected glamour, in this vibrant array of designs there’s something for everyone, the only problem you’ll have is choosing your favourite!

Nina Campbell – The Coromandel Collection – Autumn 2016

A few weeks ago, we shared with you the new collection from Matthew Williamson for Osborne & Little and promised that a blog showcasing the equally beautiful new collection from Nina Campbell would be coming up shortly, and here it is!

As promised this blog is dedicated to showing off the glorious new autumn collection, Coromandel, by Nina Campbell. This collection follows the same elegant and inspiring motifs that always feature in a collection from Nina, Coromandel makes valuable use of zingy blues, sharp greens and hot corals, as well as a whole load of new and exciting prints that will give you home a huge burst of exotic flavour!

‘Mardi Gras’ by Nina Campbell at Osborne & Little

This playfully embroidered print is every party animal’s dream. As the name suggests, inspiration for the fabric came from the Mardi Gras festival, which is reflected in the colourful chevron pattern. The textural piece is great is you lovely a bit of contemporary bohemian chic, the bold print will really make a statement contrasted against other patterns. Or, if you want to vibrate but calmer setting, the Mardi Gras fabric placed in a neutral setting will really give your interiors a pop.

The Pavilion Gardens print from the collection is a thoughtful and pretty pattern, we love it so much we bought a metre to frame and hang in the office! The scene depicts women in sari’s picking fruit in a garden. The various colourways with this print allows you to work it into various interior styles. The pastel colours can be used in a contemporary or traditional setting, and the blue and white, which resembles the traditional blue and white Chinese porcelain can be used to create an ancient Oriental style theme in a modern and interesting way.

The Meredith pattern takes a print first used by Nina back in the nineties and reworks the style in new, contemporary colours. The damask pattern, which is usually considered traditional, has been craftily paired with strong, modern colours like an icy grey and snappy coral to make it work in a contemporary setting.

Calypso is a simple, but absolutely stunning semi-plain from the collection. The dotted ombré effect creates a wonderful graded glamorous style from a distant and up close an intriguing composition. The dusty rose is gorgeous and the perfect fabric if you want to spruce up a chair or sofa.

One of my favourites from the Coromandel collection is the Perdana fabric and wallpaper. The birds and branches imagery is depicted in a beautifully artistic manner, by the use of small colourful dashes, creating a wonderfully unusual and intriguing style. This pattern is marvellous and its light-hearted nature means it can be used in all sorts of ways, from cushions to curtains.

Another of my favourites is the Palmetto design. Considering that palm trees are featured rather heavily in today’s design world, Nina finds a fresh take on the motif, creating columns out of the palm leaves. Nina comments on the design, “I love the architectural quality of the design”, the Palmetto design is a great way to add a hint of the Caribbean without going overload on the theme.

Lastly, the Coromandel’s namesake is a vividly coloured ‘Tree of Life’ embroidered pattern. The pattern is given a new lease of life and modern revamp with the use of viscose in the embroidery to create a shimmering effect. The dramatic red and electric blue are perfect for those who want to create a showstopper, and the laidback pastel colourways are ideal if you just want to the bold pattern without the bold colour.

For a lively, exciting festival of colours complemented hugely by delicate and elegant patterns and prints, the Coromandel collection from Nina Campbell hits the nail on the head. Durbar – Matthew Williamson at Osborne & Little

Last week we were paid a visit from our wonderful rep Lizzie from Osborne & Little, who showed us the new collections from Nina Campbell and Matthew Williamson. Both collections were absolutely outstanding, and both definitely worthy of their own blogs, so stay tuned for Nina’s glorious fabrics and wallpaper, but for now take a look at the new collection by the ever-so talented Matthew Williamson!

The overall theme of Matthew’s new collection, Durbar, is based on his travels to India. The collection is enriched with exotic influence but approached in a modern, stylistic way. Taking the best from old, historic tones and integrated with a new vision, what you end up with is a truly wonderful pool of gorgeous fabrics and wallpapers.

The Menagerie design, first shown as a fabric and below as wallpaper is even more stunning in person. Full of exciting details and colours, the pattern is a real showstopper, as Matthew comments on the piece, ‘I love the hot house tones, and the fresh mint, lavender and lime’. Its zingy style makes it ideal for those who are willing to take a risk, whether you want to spice up a sofa with a few cushions in the print, or perhaps a dramatic roman blind, or if you’re feeling bold, deck out a whole room with the wallpaper.

If you are at all familiar with Matthew Williamson you’ll know he has a fascination with peacock feathers, and they regularly feature in his work. For this collection, he’s used his famous inspiration but tweaked it so that it is in keeping with the overall style of Durbar. Azari is an interpretation of peacock feathers in a lacy line-drawing style. The look is fresh and modern, and a real treat if you like to create a mixture of bohemian and glamour style.

One of the patterns that we are particularly taken with at Angel + Blume is the Zanskar print. It’s a beautiful depiction of idyllic Indian celebrations, Matthew has commented on the piece saying, “The pattern was drawn and then painted by hand and is made up of whimsical scenes which up close show a light-hearted look at Indian life but from afar has the effect of a traditional and classic Toile de Jouy”. The Zanskar print is completely stunning, and its wonderful details will constantly put a smile of your face. The various colourways really change the way you can use the fabric, from the crisp blue and white to the rustic linen, it can be worked into so many alternative design schemes.

If you have a soft spot for scenic imagery on your wallpaper or fabric, Matthew has another trick up his sleeve for you. The Aravali pattern takes its name from the Aravali Mountains in West India, which is what’s depicted on the print. A vision of rolling hills, horsemen, cows, monkeys and birds as well as some forests. The whole thing is a beautiful, tranquil design that can turn a room into a serene, picturesque dream.

The Yamuna pattern is a refreshing take on the paisley print, which manages to maintain the essence of the iconic style without any outdated stigma creeping its way in. The exotic print comes in three colourways, the first darker shade works for a fresh, contemporary house, the second a light pastel is well suited for a feminine, traditional setting and the last is a wonderful rustic style, that’s great for low-key, relaxed decorum that’s looking for a hint of a seventies vibe.

Peeking out in the picture above, behind the Yamuna fabric is the lovely, contemporary Jali Trellis wallpaper. The lattice pattern mixed with the vibrant colours creates a wonderful looks that would be the perfect backdrop in any room, be it an old townhouse or a contemporary apartment.

The final delicious fabric is the Viceroy pattern, it’s a velvet applique and embroidered marigolds in vivid colours, and is rather heavenly. The dense fabric is just calling to be turned into a dramatic pair of curtains, or a reupholstered sofa, it’s a wonderful design with a great textural element to it.

New Farrow & Ball Wallpapers

To commemorate their 70^th anniversary, Farrow & Ball have released a new collection of wallpapers, all inspired by the decade of the company’s conception, the 1940s! I’ve picked out a few colourways from each of the new designs, Enigma, Gable and Arcade, to share with you.

Farrow & Ball have commented on the collection as a whole, “embracing the paradoxical feel of the post-war period – a time of looking forward while stepping back, the three uniquely textured wallpapers are contemporary interpretations of classic prints”.

The first of the three new designs is called Enigma, and is inspired by Alan Turing and his story, which you may be familiar with if you’ve seen The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The mathematician was part of a secret code-breaking department of the government during the World War II, which managed to break the German military and navel codes.

The pattern itself is a weave of interlocking rectangles, creating a sort of abstract chain-link design. It’s an intriguing pattern that creates a relationship between simplicity and intricacy, formula appears simple in theory, but the outcome creates a divine feast for the eyes. The range of colourways means that you can either go bold with this deep blue and gold, or keep it more neutral with a taupe and white colourway.

From mathematical to quintessential, the next wallpaper is the charming Gable. Taking its inspiration from the British countryside, perhaps even Farrow & Ball’s place of origin, Dorset, the Gable design is a collection of cottages, barns, rolling landscapes and farmyard animals. The “earthy and rustic aesthetic” is well matched with contemporary colourways, making the designs an exciting combination of old and new.

As for the name, Gable, it refers to the triangular part of a roof, like on the barn you can see in the design, which as Farrow & Ball comment, “in this pattern the angular lines are perfectly offset by the curve of the hills and shapes of the trees”. This pattern is versatile enough to work in a contemporary or traditional design scheme, and would look as at home in a child’s bedroom as in a dining room.

For the final look, Farrow & Ball use mid-century style as their palette. They state that, “design in the 1940s marked the transition from geometric and graphic shapes in the 20s and 30s, to the emerging of bright florals that started to appear in fabric and wallpaper designs”. The two tone curved shapes create a hypnotising patterns that can swing from both modern and traditional interiors, as well as playful and smart schemes too.

The green and peach design above is a fresh and zingy colourway, perfect for a light and airy room. While the dark blue and shimmering gold packs quite a bold, dramatic punch. Paired with some dark wood floorboards this colourway is ideal for kitting out a moody study or living room.

With 70 years under their belt, and still going as strong as ever, Farrow & Ball have a whole lot to celebrate, and these wallpapers are a perfect way to do so!

These three fabrics are where Mulberry’s contemporary take on all things exotic come in to play. The combination of the vivacious colours and the striking patterns make these fabrics perfect for the stand alone or statement pieces needed for any extroverts interiors. In particular, the vibrancy of the Oakwood pattern especially in the multi colours is outrageously stunning, the icing on the cake for any home.

Using the classic blue and white Chinese oriental motif, this China Linen fabric uses pattern clashing in an ultra-stylish way, and taking it even further by contrasting the China Linen against the orange the two fabrics work together to create an almost avant-garde piece of work.

The Bohemian Travels collection is a continuation from the previous collection Bohemian Romance, and the evolution between the two is seamlessly beautiful.

The lavish Lomond fabric oozes in richness whilst capturing the perfect antique look without being overzealous; making it belong equally in a modern interior and a period property without looking out of place.

Last week we got to take a good look at Jane Churchill’s two new collections, Samba and Atmosphere III. They took our fancy right from the start and so we wanted to share some of our favourite designs from the collections with you.

The new Samba collection from Jane Churchill is all about colour and patterns and delves into fun, bright and contemporary style.

This Fontana pattern is an amazing design and something a little different from Jane; its cross-stitch style gives the flower design a bit of an edge, adding intrigue.

Taking a retro turn here with this Rossini pattern, it’s a bright and electric design, livening up any room. Up close the pattern has amazing detail and the colours catch the light beautifully.

The other fabric in this picture is a design called Zita, which uses an ikat style, creating a bold and modern look to the damask pattern.

Curtains in Tamarinda, Beige/Red.

A real favourite from the collection of mine is this Tamarinda fabric; I love the flower design and the beautiful rich colours used. It’s a wonderfully refreshing take on a flower design fabric, perfect for a more contemporary home.

The Olinda Velvet fabric from the Samba collection is a truly contemporary design and is rather different from the rest of the collection; it’s a bold fabric and would go hand in hand with a distinct, modern home.

Another of my favourites from the collection is this Maracatu patterns, it’s bold, beautiful and fun, and is perfect for freshening up a room, making a great focal point against a white backdrop.

On to the new Atmosphere collection, Atmosphere III, there are some wonderfully striking yet simple designs, for an understated urban look. In the collection are some great digitally printed wallpapers, like this Amadine design.

The palm print is completely on trend whilst the metallic sheen makes it ooze with a luxury that would last a lifetime.

Another great wallpaper from the collection is a pattern already made popular from the Atmosphere II collection, the Plato design.

It’s available in some daring colour choices and could be perfect if you’re looking to create a feature wall.

The Sula pattern is a beautiful design and a lovely textural fabric, and is overflowing in glamour.

Wallpaper joy

Elitis have some always produced great wallpapers but they really have surpassed themselves with their new collections recently. Their designs are imaginative and beautifully executed and they have managed to achieve some amazing textures and colours with their innovative approach to production. I have pulled out just a few that really caught my imagination and although the images are lovely, the papers are even better in the flesh.

This is Rudolph from their Wonderland collection of six 3D

The texture of this paper is wonderful and makes the colours look amazing. Bolinao made from bark, palm leaves and bamboo.

Cap Vert is also on a raffia and bark background and is based on a display of portraits pinned on a wooden wall.

Cesar is a fabulous paper and gives an extraordinary impression of carved plasterwork

Marikina is made from strips of hand crafted paper dipped in vegetable dyes and hand glued together – it is beautiful!

Robinson – the abaca bark is dyed using natural pigments and the result is beautiful colour shading

And finally one of my favourites, Sauvage, which is a 3 metre square water colour artwork printed on the same natural textured paper.

Animal attraction

Here’s a little something lighthearted for the weekend – I have just visited House of Hackney‘s lovely website and seen their wonderful new wallpapers which made me smile. Aren’t they gorgeous? I think if you went to someone’s house and they had walls decorated in these designs, you would just know you were going to have a good time. And to add to the overall feeling of well-being, House of Hackney are giving 5% of proceeds of sales to the Born Free Foundation. Come on then, who’s tempted?
