One of my guilty pleasures is browsing through the property for sale pages and when I came across the exquisite Burnham Westgate Hall in one of my favourite areas of the country, North Norfolk, I couldn’t help but share it. The property was redesigned by Sir John Soane in the 1780s but the beautiful interiors (which is what really caught my eye) have been done much more recently – not that you would know it as they seem to blend so harmoniously with the glorious architecture of the house. Burnham Westgate Hall is for sale through Knight Frank.

Beautiful Blakeney

I’ve just spent a very restful week in Blakeney on the north Norfolk coast and whilst my feet have been firmly up, my interior-loving eyes have not been closed. My first recommendation is the marvellous Blakeney Cottage Company – this is the second time I have booked with them and I was not disappointed, Driftwood cottage was delightful, as I suspect all the properties on their books are.
My first stop on my travels was to Stiffkey Period Lighting. It is worth a trip just to look at the lovely old Methodist chapel that they are located in, but the real attraction is the great range of traditional lighting and wonderful ironmongery they stock. It is a treasure trove so leave enough time for extensive browsing.
I also popped into an old favourite – Made in Cley, based in Cley next the Sea. This is a wonderful collective of artists, housed in a gorgeous Regency building in the centre of the town. They stock a beautiful range of sculpture, pottery and jewellery and are really worth a visit. I can also highly recommend the smoke house next door, if you need something for supper – the fish is delicious!
I have never fully appreciated the joy of owning a beach hut but having walked at Wells next the Sea in glorious sunshine on New Years day and watched several beach hut parties well under way, I can see the attraction. Sowerbys have several on their books for anyone not feeling the austerity pinch.
Finally, and this is unashamedly not interiors related, I can recommend travelling far and wide to see the Blakeney Players in action. We went along to the production of Acropolis Now (A Comedy of Arrows) staged at the Blakeney Village Hall which was witty, well-staged and a laugh from start to finish.
I am now back at my desk at Emmanuel Road and ready to work! Happy New Year to you all.
