As if by magic we seemed to have powered through almost the first two months of 2016 which means we’re nearing the month of March and onto another special occasion, Mother’s Day! As we are trying to stick to our resolutions of being more organised this year we’ve already dug up some wonderful gift ideas for our beloved mothers.

Instead of purchasing the usual gifts of flowers, which will wither away in just a few days, or chocolates, that will disappear in a mere matter of minutes, at Angel + Blume we want to think outside the box and give something a little more permanent as a present that mums can treasure forever.

Whatever style or taste you mum likes, be it quirky, traditional, nature-loving or contemporary, we’ve got something that will make her smile from ear to ear this Mothering Sunday.

For all the mothers who follow a traditional sense of style, and love adorning their homes in lovely little trinkets An Angel at my Table, as always, has some absolutely beautiful home accessories.

Glory Be! & Amour Tea Towels from An Angel at my Table

These beautiful floral printed tea towels will add a lovely spurt of colour into any kitchen, and the added touch of some pom pom trimmings are a wonderful idea, so wonderful in fact that we think they may be best left as display items and not actually used for washing up!

Small White Country Jug from An Angel at my Table

A wonderful gift for a traditional style loving mum is this simple yet sophisticated jug, also from An Angel at my Table. The detailing around the side of the vase creates a lovely finish to the ceramic piece, making the jug ideally matched for a classic interior.

If, like mine, you mum has green fingers then opting for some nature related gifts will get two thumbs up. Thornback & Peel make some wonderful products with the some amazing designs that are the perfect combination of tradition and modern. I completely love this pea pod tray from the vibrant green colour to the herringbone inspired print.

Another wonderful idea for all the nature loving mothers out there are these rather spectacularly designed plant pots from Not on the High Street. The aged copper Verdigris-like colour is stunning and helps make these pots a real feature piece.

Leaves Plant Pot from Not on the High Street

For a sweet little gift, and a flower that will last, this paper rose from Not on the High Street is simply marvellous, using printed text from novels the whole look has charm to boot.

If you hear the words ‘wonderfully wacky’ and your mind immediately wonders over to your mother, then taking the unconventional route and giving her some adorable and quirky gifts this Mother’s Day will fill her with joy. This cushion from Fine Cell Work featuring the ‘princess of fruits’, the pineapple will make a lovely addition to an array of scatter cushions. It’s a fun and playful item that will look good in any home.

Pineapple Cushion from Fine Cell Work

I love this quirky, full-to-the-brim of individuality vase from Rockett St George. It’ll make a fine talking point and will no doubt put a smile of everybody’s face. It’s full of character and is a perfect gift if your mum is too.

David Display Vase from Rocket St George

Last but not least if your mum is a bit of a cool cat, with a home to match, why not help her kit it out with some amazing and stylish pieces. Since the cold weather doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon a cosy blanket and cushions are most certainly in order. These hand woven, hand printed cushion and blanket are laid-back contemporary style at its best and will look great on a sofa or bed.

I completely fell in love with this ceramic collection from Rockett St George, so much so that I may have to treat both myself and my mother to a set. The modern marble effect is a wonderful design for all the lovers of the classic contemporary style.

So there you have it, a sweet guide on what to buy your mum this Mother’ Day, or if you can’t resist a preview of all the lovely items you’ll be filling your own home with as well!

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and it seems that there are red hearts and roses as far as the eye can see, and it’s got us thinking here at Angel + Blume about creating beautiful, romantic interiors, that aren’t just for the 14th February but for all year round. So if you’re big on warm, romantic, inviting interiors but less so on all the lovey-dovey and a tad bit tacky Valentine’s Day paraphernalia then you’re in luck as we’ve picked out some of the sweetest home accessories to help make you feel like every day is Valentine’s Day.

I have rather fallen in love with this knitted chandelier from Anthropolgie, a somewhat unconventional material for a chandelier the hand-knitted aspect adds a little quirk and intrigue to the piece. The knitted chandelier creates a beautiful, hazy atmosphere and is a wonderfully original take on the traditional crystal chandelier.

‘Hand-Knitted Chandelier’ from Anthropologie

From ceiling to table, a quick and easy way to inject a little romantic mood lighting into a dining room is with a stunning tea light holder like this one from Graham and Green, its large enough to not need too many other sources of light, creating the perfect setting for an intimate evening, and its beautiful design means it can be used for all sorts of occasions as well.

‘Gold Multi Tea Light Holder’ from Graham and Green

Keep the romantic feeling alive even during afternoon tea, this cup and saucer combo from Rockett St George is absolutely adorable and lives just on the right side of twee and gushy. A few integrated into a set of plain teacups and saucers would look lovely and would avoid everything looking a little too matchy-matchy.

‘George Melody Rose Kissing Couple Teacup and Saucer’ from Rockett St George

Another romantic addition to tea are these rather sweetly design napkins from Thornback & Peel, teaming a traditional pink with an untraditional rabbit and cabbage design makes the napkins suitable for using all year round.

‘Pink Rabbit and Cabbage Napkin’ from Thornback & Peel

Romance and Swans are often been intertwined with one another and if you’re looking for a more permanent romantic touch to your home these Swan curtain tiebacks would make a really sweet addition to a home, perfect for a bedroom.

‘Swanned Tiebacks’ from Anthropologie

For an animal less typical affiliated with romance but equally as lovely, this monkey bottle holder from Graham and Green will really add something to your dining room table and is a wonderful way to show off your style, as well as your fun side.

‘Monkey Bottle Holder’ from Graham and Green

The beautiful lines and colour used to create this beautifully stylish vase makes it a rather dreamy design, in keeping with a romantic atmosphere, suitable for a small bouquet of flowers, or dare I say it a single rose.

‘Wave Vases’ from Not on the High Street

To fill your living area up with a warming and cosy atmosphere you can’t go wrong with this lovely dusty coloured cushion from Timorous Beasties. They make the most amazing designs and for something low-key a few of these cushions scattered across a sofa will do the job nicely.

‘White Moth Cushions’ from Timorous Beasties

‘Star Dish’ from Catesby’s

This star dish from Catesby’s is impossibly cute and will add some twinkly-eyed magic to any evening, they’re wonderfully contemporary as well as having a hint of rustic-ness about them.

And finally, I couldn’t help but gush at over how gorgeous this elegant candelabra is, it’s absolutely stunning and even if you didn’t have anything else on the table it would still wow your company and goes hand-in-hand with a romantic interior.

‘Arbour Perch Candelabra’ from Anthropologie

If this is a tad too left field for your taste but you’re still looking for something with a fun edge, these owl ornament are marvellous!

An Angel at my Table Vintage Owls

‘Paper Stars in Black and Grey’ from Bodie and Fou

I love this rather special card from An Angel at my Table, it’s an elegant way to do Christmas in style, and if you don’t want to send it to someone it would make a lovely, understated decoration in your home.

‘Pop up St Paul’s Cathedral Card’ from An Angel at my Table

Not to leave your kitchen feeling left out, this sweet robin and holly tea towel from Thornback & Peel is a delightful addition, the design is also featured on aprons, oven mitts, crackers and many other things in case you want to spoil yourself!

‘Robin & Holly tea towel’ from Thornback & Peel

Last but not least, make your gifts extra special with some beautiful wrapping paper, this starry designed paper from Cox & Cox is marvellous!

Accessories are a great way to bring pattern, colour and interest into an interior and whilst I am in no way discounting the classic ivory silk lampshade which I love, I would draw your attention to some of the marvelous ways to bring a bit of character to your home just by updating a lampshade or two – from some of our favourite suppliers, of course!

Thornback and Peel

Thornback and Peel‘s designs are beautiful and eye-catching and work brilliantly on a lampshade where you can see all the lovely detail.

Graham and Green

This charming lamp and base is from Graham and Green and uses an Osborne and Little wallpaper (design by Nina Campbell) for the shade. You can buy the lamp and the shade separately but I think they look great together.

Kate Forman

Doing French country style as only Kate Forman can, this lampshade is made from her Red Josephine fabric.

pooky

I was recently introduced to the brilliant Pooky selling a wonderful range of bases and shades. I purchased two of the Oralee (yellow base in the middle) for our office meeting room  and I am delighted with them. Look out for the lights on and off feature on their website which shows the huge difference between how the shades look when the light is on or off.

Rapture and Wright

Rapture and Wright‘s fabrics which are all so beautiful, look wonderful on a lampshade and especially teamed with the delicious burnt orange interior.

St Judes

I love this dear little lamp from St Judes featuring Angie Lewin’s Hedgerow fabric.

Digital Moth

And finally, the image doesn’t really do it justice but Timorous Beasties clever lampshades (mostly) feature plain exteriors with their enchanting designs on the inside which when the lamp is switched on glow through the shade so you see the patterns in their full illuminated glory.

There are surely few things that shout British holiday as loudly as the deck chair and whilst we are enjoying a wonderful summer, now is the perfect time to invest in the classiest seating you can lay your hands on for use in the great outdoors. Here are just a few of my favourite finds.

thornback and peel

I love all the designs from Thornback and Peel but this turquoise sardine tin seems to work perfectly on a deckchair – don’t forget the matching cushion!

house of hackney

House of Hackney‘s fab fabrics give their deckchairs a decided air of cool, and I love the Edwardian version with shade cover and stool for the perfect feet-up experience.

cox and cox double deck chair

This double deck chair from Cox and Cox is extra wide for communal relaxing – there is room for two, or more, so bag your place quickly.

liberty

Liberty has joined forces with deckchair experts Southsea Deckchairs to produce these limited edition deckchairs in classic Liberty print. Available for one season only, so buy now to avoid disappointment!

plum and ashby

You get a little piece of history with these deckchairs from Plum and Ashby as each frame used to be used on the sea front at Weston-Super-Mare and has now been given an overhaul with a new seat in their charming Bertie print.

rockettstgeorge

Life is indeed beautiful with these chairs from Rockett St George with their upbeat messages. You Are My Sunshine and Life is Beautiful – but which will you choose? – I recommend both to be on the safe side.

House of Hackney 2

And finally whilst this is not a deckchair, I couldn’t resist tempting you with this wonderful covered Rocker Swinging Seat from House of Hackney. Couldn’t you just snooze on that until the Autumn?

Until I started thinking about this blog, I had no idea quite how popular hares had become.  See below a wonderful selection of whimsical designs.  This is a modern rustic look in fresh, leafy greens and warm, earthy tones.

 Red March Hares

Dashing Red March Hares give playful touch to a country scheme.  Particularly suitable in a kitchen, study, nursery or cloakroom.  Several other colours available.

I have just come across an interesting website called Peony & Sage.  They sell a great selection of fabrics and accessories in pastels and florals, including this fabulous Hare print.

fudge hare

Their Fudge Hare Cushion is beautifully handmade, piped and finished with covered buttons.  Available with or without a feather pad.  £39.95-£49.95

 bunnies

Also from Peony & Sage, these lovely lavender filled bunnies have matching gingham and button collars and come in a variety of colours.  Would make great alternative Easter gift.  £9.95 each

drum shade

For a nature loving child’s bedroom these Drum Shades in Mini Hares are just perfect.  They are available in large and small sizes and in a great selection of colours.  They are made by Lolly and Boo and you need to contact Louise at this website if you would like to order one.

I recently came across a great website called Thornback & Peel.  They sell a wonderful selection of intricate screen printed pieces for the home. These include cushions, deck chairs, aprons and lampshades and I just love this cream cotton cushion with chocolate brown rabbits and green cabbages.  Their designs are inspired by artistic traditions from Mrs Beeton’s household management to Mr McGregor’s garden.

Then, flicking through Country Living Magazine I noticed a picture of the chair below, and read that Thornback & Peel have recently collaborated with ‘the design lab’ at Sofa.com.  A small, exclusive range of their fabrics is available to order on all sofa.com products. I think this chair is fabulous and would sit perfectly in a corner of the kitchen.
